How to Choose the Right Image Format
With so many image formats available, it can be confusing to know which one to save your files in. Here is a cheat sheet.
For Photographs on the Web: JPG or WebP
If you are uploading a picture of a landscape, a person, or a complex scene to a website, use JPG or WebP. They handle millions of colors well and compress efficiently. Try our Converter to switch formats.
For Graphics with Transparency: PNG or WebP
If you have a logo that needs a clear background so it can sit on top of a colored website header, you must use PNG or WebP. JPG does not support transparency.
For Logos and Icons: SVG
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is not made of pixels; it's made of math. This means an SVG logo will look perfectly crisp whether it's the size of a postage stamp or a billboard. Use SVG for simple shapes and icons whenever possible.
For Animations: WebP or MP4
GIFs are famously bloated and slow to load. Modern animated WebP files or short MP4 videos are much smaller and higher quality.
